Samsung SSSP3

Supported until: 2019-12-31

Details:
  • Oldest officially supported Samsung device.
  • Uses an outdated web browser version, has limited SSL certificate support and has no offline cache support. We therefore recommend Samsung SSSP6 instead
Known limitations
  • Only supports having two videos playing at the same time.
  • Moving an area while the video player is on causes the video player to restart (Caused by technical limitation in the firmware )
  • Scrolling text does not run smoothly (renders with CPU instead of GPU caused by limitations in the web browser)
  • Supports only one transition at a time, trying to run several transitions at the same time results in only the first showing and the rest is skipped. (Transition is skipped, other material is shown as normal).
  • Does not support all types of SSL certificates and therefore cannot show all web pages.
  • Videos appear in the wrong position the first time it plays.
  • Websites with embedded videos can disturb the builtin video player.
  • Websites with video areas are not stable, cannot know if a video will play perfectly or not at all.
  • Videos are shown in lower quality in portrait mode compared to landscape mode.
  • Media player does not support 180 degrees rotation. Screen needs to be mounted correctly from the start.
  • Media player cannot show web pages that cannot be shown in iframes.
  • Media player cannot play YouTube embedded links. Player objects are therefore marked as ‘invalid’ and is skipped by the player.
  • Does not support HLS video streams

Samsung SSSP4

Supported

Details:
  • Uses a somewhat newer, however still dated, web browser than SSSP3. We recommend Samsung SSSP6 instead.
Known limitations
  • No offline cache support.
  • Only supports playing two videos at the same time
  • Sound on videos cannot be muted.
  • Websites with embedded videos can disturb the builtin video player.
  • Websites with video areas are not stable, cannot know if a video will play perfectly or not at all.
  • Videos are shown in lower quality in portrait mode compared to landscape mode.

Details:
  • The latest iteration of Samsung's digital signage platform. It is the recommended Samsung display series.
Known limitations
  • Has no offline cache support.
  • Requires turning on “fast boot in production” in the screens low level settings (mute + 1 + 8 + 2 + ok) for the app to be able to upgrade/downgrade.
  • Websites with embedded videos can disturb the builtin video player.
  • Websites with video areas are not stable, cannot know if a video will play perfectly or not at all.
  • Videos are shown in lower quality in portrait mode compared to landscape mode.
  • Media player does not support 180 degrees rotation. Screen needs to be mounted correctly from the start.
  • Media player cannot show web pages that cannot be shown in iframes.
  • Does not support HLSvideo streams.
  • Webpages can steal focus and show an onscreen keyboard.

LG WebOS 3 (3.0, 3.2, 3.3, 3.7)

Supported

Details:
  • No offline cache support. We recommend WebOS 4 instead.
Known limitations
  • Websites with embedded videos can disturb the builtin video player.
  • Websites with video areas are not stable, cannot know if a video will play perfectly or not at all.
  • No players except WebOS 3.7 support  HLSvideo streams.
  • Timezone and/or time cannot be set through the app, must be set on the display itselef.
  • Does not support all types of SSL certificates and therefore cannot show all web pages.

LG WebOS 4

Supported

Details:
  • LG’s latest iteration of their digital signage platform, thus recommended.
  • Has no offline cache support.
Known limitations
  • After factory resetting the screen, it may take a while before the app is visible.
  • Websites with embedded videos can disturb the builtin video player.
  • Websites with video areas are not stable, cannot know if a video will play perfectly or not at all.
  • Does not support HLS video streams.

Philips D-line 4050D

  • The current PLAYipp media player that can plug into any screen. This is the recommended media player for more demanding tasks where the built in media player SOC’s are not enough.
